Daily life is full of pressures, conflicts and an emphasis on competition and short-term objectives. For many of us, it can be hard maintaining a sense of purpose and direction.
Free-floating discussion and dialogue within a group creates an atmosphere for our experiences to be aired and reflected upon together. Space is created for troublesome feelings of isolation, anxiety or depression. These can be explored not only in terms of our individual emotional life, but also linked to other members’ own experiences.
We may wish to expand our personal development or explore our creativity; to search for a more meaningful life or come to terms with stresses, losses or traumas at home or at work.
Group therapy is conducted within a safe setting that creates an atmosphere of mutual trust and support. The growing sense of belonging strengthens the bond between the individual and his or her group, and we find our personalities are enhanced. The perspectives of other members help us gain a more inclusive understanding of ourselves and our society.
Group sessions usually run for an hour and a half and take place within a structured encounter between a qualified therapist and a number of clients.
